So all of last week our local weatherman kept talking about snow for Sunday. By the end of the week they were calling it a Snow Storm. I’ll admit, I wasn’t quite convinced considering our temps were in the 60’s Thursday and Friday. I mean…even if it did snow, would it seriously cause as much trouble as they were predicting? They were estimating 2-4 inches for our area with larger amounts in other areas of the state. I wasn’t entirely convinced but I did make sure we had groceries and water. I didn’t go out of my way to run to the store in a freak out because it was going to snow, we went Wednesday for our usual huge shopping trip and I just added a few extras.
I could tell Saturday that the weather was definitely changing, suddenly it was getting quite cold and the wind was really picking up. I watched the news and I did begin to worry in the back of my mind what would happen if it got severe enough to cause loss of electricity. After all, I have my little sweet pea to worry about in this cold weather. They were predicting the winter weather to move into the state around noon and my area around 3, I spent Saturday washing all of Abby’s warm clothes and then went on to bed. Sunday was a rather normal day for us, I got to sleep in until about noon and then hubby needed to go help the on call guy because all of a sudden everyone decided their heaters weren’t working well enough. I got Abby down for her nap and called my dad to say hi and see how things were down there (he lives in the bottom portion of the state). Winter weather had arrived for him, but instead of snow they were getting lots of sleet. Yep, that’s pretty typical for South AR. So far it wasn’t doing anything here.
I spent the afternoon working and hanging out on Facebook. I watched as my friends updated their status with winter weather arrivals, I knew it was on the way here soon. My sister sent me a picture text of the snowflakes that had started to fall (she lives an hour south of us…where we use to live) and I was still without snow lol where was our snow hiding at! lol Then hubby sent a text that said “snowing” yipee! I ran to the window (which I had been peeking out of all morning in hopes of seeing snowflakes) and sure enough it was finally snowing!
I kept the blinds pulled up so Abby could watch the snow. Since she had been sick all weekend I didn’t want to take her out in it. I watched the snow fall and cover up the neighborhood, I watched it start to heavily come down and with the wind blowing severely it looked blizzard-like outside (very rare for AR). Poor hubby was still trying to help the on call guy get caught up and they were stuck outside snaking a drain…freezing their bootys off lol. I did wrap Abby up in a huge blanket and put her hat on so we could step right outside the door for a few seconds and let her experience snowfall.
The highlight of the evening? It was more fun to watch the vehicles try to climb the hill by our house than watch the snow come down lol. And I’m not being mean, the people would slowly creep up the incline…and then stop right as they reached the top so of course when they tried to get going again they couldn’t. They stopped on a snowy incline, what did they expect. One poor guy in a Jeep Cherokee just couldn’t get over the hill, he backed all the way down and still couldn’t go so our neighbor (in his awesome Jeep) when and pulled the guy up…and following behind them having no problems with the hill was a tiny mini coup LOL to me that is so funny and quite amusing to watch. Our neighbor ended up pulling several up the hill, several others turned sideways in the street, it wasn’t a pretty site. Later in the evening even the CAT got stuck.
This morning we woke up to a blanket of white, our area ended up with 6 inches, other parts of the state had 10! AR never sees snow like this and the kids too advantage of the snow day from school. There are several out sledding down any hill they can find, building snowmen and making snow angels, its been a nice day. We bundled Abby up in several layers of clothes and took her outside for just a few minutes for a few pictures. After all, its her first snow! And she turned 10 months old today!! I can’t believe my baby will be a year old in two months! She was quite confused as to why outside was suddenly all white but she still had fun inspecting the snow lol she even decided to taste test a little snow that was on her mitten and boy did she give her daddy a shocked look when she realized how cold it was!! Yes, we sat her down in the snow for one really fast picture…it was right before we went inside, it was like 123 sit her down, move out of the way, snap the picture, grab her and into the house to strip her down lol. The picture turned out to be my favorite but I wasn’t taking any chances of her getting cold, especially not with her already sick. We might go back out later once hubby gets home from work and make a snowman. Definitely a day to remember for the baby book 🙂
Such CUTE photos! 🙂 I dont think she quite knows what to think of all that white stuff!
I’m in MN, so we are used to all the snow. In fact it’s snowing now! haha
Aww! I love the snow pictures! Sophie had her first snow back in November – We live in MT – it snows for 5 months! She didn’t know what to think either. She is turning 1 tomorrow – they just grow WAY to fast, don’t they?
She is sooo cute 🙂
