…at least until his replacement arrives.
Back in December I ordered Abby a Crane Humidifier. I actually had a certain brand/style in mind but at the time it was impossible to find the one I wanted in stores. I wanted a Cool Mist and no one around here had anything besides warm mist (and yes, of course now there are shelves of the one I wanted, typical). I had a gift card for CSN Stores and after reading several reviews online, I decided to order a Crane Cool Mist Humidifier. I was not at all familiar with Crane products, have never used one of their humidifiers and simply was not sure about the quality of product As most of you know, Crane offers a wide variety of cute, fun humidifiers. Anything from a Frog to a Penguin and even Hello Kitty. We chose the Duck, isn’t he cute?
I finally got Duck set up and Abby immediately took notice, how could she not? He’s so bright and really stands out! Her humidifier soon became “Duck Duck” and every night we gave Duck Duck kisses night night. It was all part of our bedtime routine, woombie then orajel then we talked to Duck Duck while daddy went and got the bottle ready. Abby adores her Duck Duck and now that she’s rid of woombie, she not only gives kisses (we lean her forward and she “kisses” the beak) but also pats him on the head.
The other day something went terribly wrong with Duck Duck. I put Abby down for her nap and came to my office area to work. The monitor suddenly had a horrible noise coming through it, like an interference and I figured that the monitor was once again messing up. I went to her room to figure out what was causing the noise and discovered that it was actually her humidifier making that terrible noise. It sounded as if the motor was burning up. I quickly turned it off…waited a few minutes and turned it on. It sounds perfectly normal but when I leaned forward just a bit and smelled of the “mist” it had a burned plastic smell to it. Duck Duck was turned off and unplugged, for good.
I tried calling Crane about the problem but they never answered their phone nor did I get a call back from the message I was prompted to leave. I then turned to CSN Stores to see what they could do since I had purchased it from them. Never have I experienced such wonderful customer service. I wasn’t on hold very long before a really nice lady came on the line and asked how she could help me. I explained everything to her, she expressed great concern especially since this was in my daughter’s. Although I’m weary of getting another of the same product (what if it happens again?) I knew I wanted a replacement. I explained how much our daughter loves her Duck Duck and told the lady the story of our bedtime kisses. She laughed and told me that a replacement would be sent out immediately at no charge. She said that while I should probably leave Duck in the room so that Abby still sees him, I should not even consider turning it back on (ummm I know she was just being helpful but no way was I turning that thing back on). Once the new one arrives she instructed me to simple discard this one.
So for now, our beloved Duck Duck sits quietly on top of the shelves waiting for the day we box him back up. While I question the product and will use more caution with the new one (I’m already paranoid, now I’ll worry even more about something happening) CSN Stores customer service proved to be truly wonderful. I have made several purchases with CSN Stores and have always been satisfied with my experience, now I’m even more satisfied with the company and definitely recommend it. Crane on the other hand disappointed me, I had never used their products before now and not being able to even contact them with a question/concern/problem was frustrating.
We have the same “adorable duck” humidifier! I agree that it’s super cute and our daughter (3 months) smiles when she looks at it as well! Sorry to hear that yours went on the fritz but glad to hear you were able to get a replacement so easily. Hopefully ours lasts as I’m not sure Shoppers Drug Mart (where we got ours) has the same replacement policy.
