When it comes to shoes, my daughter would much rather be barefooted! Luckily she was born in March and here in AR, the weather is already started to get warm. I don’t think she actually wore shoes until November, maybe December. Back then, she was too little to figure out how to take her shoes off. Now, since all of her sandals have velcro, we barely make it down the street before she’s taking them off. I needed to find something that was both really comfortable for her and that she couldn’t take off so easily. What I came across was Boumy Shoes. Boumy makes genuine leather baby slippers which are designed to give tiny feet the sensation of walking barefoot without risking injury. Being a natural material, it breathes and by doing so keeps little feet cool in the summer and nice and warm in winter. The elastic ankle fastening helps make putting the shoes on quick and easy, and while she can take them off by herself, there’s no velcro straps for my daughter to play with!
I was delighted when given the chance to review a pair of Boumy shoes with Abby! With her love for being outside, I hoped these shoes would be comfortable enough for her to enjoy wearing them (and possibly not notice too much) while protecting her little feet. I let hubby select the pair for Abby and he chose the Jogging White. He said they would go with everything since they were white and looked a little like sneakers. I was pretty surprised considering all the cute, girly designs to choose from but his reasoning made sense 🙂
When they arrived Abby immediately liked them, she even took them out of the box and carried them to her room. They are cute, the soles are really soft and flexible but thick enough to protect her feet if she stepped on something (rocks, twigs, if its outside my child will manage to step on it!). I also like the soft lining which would make the shoes comfortable even with no socks on, these would be great for her to wear inside as well to help keep her from slipping now that we have all hardwood floors! The shoes (they really are more like slippers) are very well constructed, great stitching which is wonderful with a very active toddler, and the leather is very soft so I know they won’t bother her as much as her sandals do. Boumy shoes will flex and bend with her natural little movements.
Here’s a little something borrow from Boumy’s website that I found very interesting:
Orthopaedic research suggests that “fallen arches” or “flat feet” occur more often in the more cultivated, western world. Scientists believe that there is a relationship between flat feet and the use of traditional footwear, worn by kids during their primary years of development. In fact, there are orthopaedic studies that suggest that the strongest developed little feet, are those of children that have learned to walk barefoot.
By walking on bare feet, babies and toddlers learn to develop their toe gripping- and arch muscle qualities. In addition it is very important that the child learns to know the feel of its own foot soles as it learns to walk. The child must feel the impulses of the nerves of the foot.
However, it isn’t always possible to walk on bare feet. Therefore Boumy soft leather shoes are the ideal solution.
– they protect the feet
– they are flexible and allow free movement
– they are flat soled, no heel
– the rough leather finish underneath gives ample grip for skiddy floors
– the soft leather is light and feels pleasant
– the elastic ankle fastening makes sure the shoe does not slip off
Unfortunately, we were not able to actually try out the Boumy’s my daughter received. She’s been growing so much here lately and these shoes simply wouldn’t fit her. Do to this, I’m not able to really review how well the shoes protected her feet and how much she actually liked wearing them. Just from look, feel, and what I’ve read I do think they would be a pair of shoes worth investing in and we have considered purchasing her a pair. Boumy shoes seem ideal not only for her development and continuing to improve her walking, they also sound perfect for little ones who love to be barefoot like my lil sweetheart!
Boumy shoes range in sizes for children ages 0 to 2, there is a fantastic selection to choose from and these might just be the perfect shoe for your little one! The prices are quite affordable for the quality of shoe! I reviewed the Jogging White Boumy Shoes which retails for $32.00, right now you can take advantage of a great savings opportunity Boumy is offering.
