Children love to play dress up. The idea of putting on a costume and pretending to be someone else is exciting. The possibilities are endless and this type of play is a great way for your child to develop a wonderful imagination.
My two older children (7 and 3) both love to play dress up. My daughter has starting to grow out of many of her items and my son only has a few pieces in his collection so they have both requested dress up items.
After Halloween every year stores clear out all of their Halloween related merchandise. This is the perfect time to rack up on great costumes that can make an amazing dress up trunk for your children. This past Halloween I went out to a local store and purchased a total of 12 costumes that were on clearance for 90% off! None of the costumes I chose were Halloween related so they were great for pretending with all year long.
My plan is to purchase wooden boxes at the local craft store to use as their “trunks”. I will paint them in their favorite colors; add their names using an alphabet stencil and ta-da! They will have a customized trunk to hold their new dress up clothes! My kids will be ecstatic to have their very own trunk full of dress up clothes that is unique and made especially for them. Let the imaginative play begin!
