This Christmas I decided to try something new and actually bake cookies with Abby. She’s at the age where she can have fun doing little things like baking and craft projects so I thought it would be fun to bake cookies for Santa with her. This would be our first year to put out cookies for Santa and for some crazy reason I thought I would actually be able to make the cookies instead of just buying a store package. Plus I knew Abby would have a blast using the cookie cutters and covering the cookies with sprinkles.
I feel I should inform you now, I’m not much of a cook. Okay, I’m lots better than I was several years ago. Back then I could pretty much make Mac & Cheese, Hamburger Helper and Toast. Yep, those were about it. I did challenge myself and try to take on more of the cooking, mainly with my awesome crock-pot, and have managed to make several great dinners. I also learned to make the big Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners for our family so I think I’ve come a long way. However, I have never ever attempted to make anything like cookies or a cake from scratch.
I spent a few days searching online for a super easy cookie recipe, I was determined we were going to make these cookies ourselves. I was surprised to discover I had pretty much all needed ingredients in the house so I was only after one or two things when I went to the grocery store Christmas Eve. While in the store I decided to buy some cookie dough… just in case. Glad I did, the night simply did not go as planned and we ended up giving up on the idea of baking from scratch. In my opinion, it’s a good thing we did! We had enough trouble with just that simple cookie dough roll lol
Abby was so excited and definitely had LOTS of fun! Her daddy had some trouble with the cookie dough roll and she got a little impatient as we tried to get the cookie shapes up without them completely tearing apart but once it was time for the sprinkles she came running back to the kitchen. I can definitely say the sprinkles were her absolute favorite part! It was such a fun evening, a fun family moment and we had a blast! I’ll learn from our mistakes and next year won’t be such a mess! Santa had cookies, Abby had fun, we created great memories… that’s all that really matters 🙂
It’s the memories that matter, not the outcome! Plus, no matter what cookies end up looking like, they usually taste awesome. Man, the creations P. ends up coming out with when it’s time to decorate. Not Martha-esque, I tell you what.
You are right Christa! It’s the memories that matter the most 🙂 and the fun we had. lol the cookies tasted great, a little on the sweet side thanks to her going a little overboard with the sprinkles lol
