Considering we moved Abby into her big girl bed back at the beginning of April, I am extremely late in posting these pictures but I just had to share! I’m sure you remember my first post about moving Abby to her big girl bed, I shared Operation Big Girl Bed back in March when we decided it was time to introduce her new bed. Once the tummy bug was finally evicted from our home, we decided to tackle putting together Abby’s twin bed and help her make the transition from toddler bed to big girl bed. We planned everything for the weekend so that we were able to stay up at night with her in case she didn’t take to her new bed very well. I had heard friends mention that sometimes it took a couple of days before their children got use to their new bed so I prepared myself to spend a few sleepless nights with Abby.
We talked to Abby about her new bed all week, we made it a big deal, got all excited about the new big bed, her grandparents sent her new sheets and bedding, we made sure she saw it as a great experience and did all we could to help the transition be as smooth as possible. When the box with her bedding arrived she could hardly contain her excitement! She wanted to use her new bedding right away! I had to explain a few times that it was for her new, big girl bed and that mommy needed to wash everything to get it read. By the time the weekend arrived, all Abby could talk about was her new bed. She actually asked her daddy to put it together!
The bed gave hubby a few problems, turns out that the people we got it from had drilled new holes and the holes were not matching up well. After a few hours and lots of fixing, the bed was together (and according to hubby, not coming apart! oh boy, this will be fun)!! Abby helped, she danced around her room in excitement and squealed with happiness when it was finally ready.
She was SO excited to sleep in her new bed! Turns out, I had nothing to worry about. She climbed up in bed, we covered her up and gave her goodnight kisses and she went right to bed. She didn’t wake up once that first night and never had any problems sleeping in her new bed. I almost wish we had moved her to the bigger bed sooner! The only thing I have to deal with now is her wanting to get up in the mornings by herself.
Moving Abby to her big girl bed has been one of her best “growing up” experiences. While we struggle with others little things this was super easy for her. She loves her bed, she loves getting to climb up her steps into bed and she absolutely loves her new bedding! She has three sets of sheets, including princess ones. The only odd little thing has been she hates sleeping with a sheet! She will kick the sheet to the bottom and cover up with the fluffy comforter. I’ve learned and now I save time (and laundry) and just leave off the sheet for now. She also informs me every night that her pillow is not fluffy and waits patiently while I fluff it for her. Yes, she’s a little spoiled 🙂
and for all you mommies who might be wondering, yes I did cry a little that first night! My baby is growing up SO fast!!
bye-bye toddler bed!
the bed gave him soooo many problems!
getting it figured out!
I absolutely LOVE her bedding! Funny story: this is the bedding I wanted for her toddler set, hubby said no. Without me saying anything, my dad and step-mom picked this set (and another cute owl sheet set) out for Abby! And yes, now hubby agrees that it’s really cute 🙂
oh yes, she was extremely excited about her new bed and new sheets!
mommy’s big girl!
Now to just get her room all fixed up and decorated! This past weekend I worked on getting the office cleaned out so we can move all her toys into what will be her new playroom. I found a dresser for her room which will be moved in once the toys are moved out. Everything is finally coming together, now if only I can stay feeling well enough to get it all done.
