A couple of years ago, as I prepared to make our yearly ornaments, I decided I wanted to change things up and attempt something new. I wanted something a little more for our ornaments, something to help make them pop more. I loved our ornaments but hey, new year meant time for something new and they needed …. something.
I had seen plenty of people making pretty custom glitter ornaments with cute decals. Okay, the decal part was out. But the glitter part seemed like something I could take on (even though my husband absolutely despises glitter!) and the glitter made the ornaments so pretty!
I looked up directions, I watched videos, I wrote down instructions and what materials I needed and definitely knew this was something I could do.
Then I hit a bump in the road… none of our local stores had an item (a main item) needed. Thank goodness for Amazon!
All materials gathered, Hallmark Christmas movie playing, I was ready to give this a try!
What you need:
- Clear plastic or glass ornament that you want to use (yes, this works for both plastic and glass).
- Pledge Floor Care Finish.
- Glitter in colors of your choice (I used both regular and extra fine)
- Little Dixie Cups (this is optional but I found them useful for pouring the Pledge, catching the extra glitter and then using them to sit the ornaments on the dry).

Now for the fun!
I poured the Pledge into a Dixie Cup just because it was easier handle. You don’t need a lot.

Pour the Pledge Floor Care Finish into the ornament, you don’t need a large amount. Once I had it in the bottom, I would move the ornament in circles, making sure I covered every spot. Then simply held the ornament sideways and very slowly turned it while the finish coated the entire inside. Once completely covered, I just sat the ornament upside down on the Dixie Cup so all the excess could drain out.

Once all the excess floor finish is out, it’s time for the glitter!!

Again, I poured some into a Dixie Cup just to make things easier.

Now all you do is pour the glitter into the ornament and again, move in circles and slowly rotate making sure the glitter coats every little spot inside the ornament! Once entirely coated, I again sat the ornament upside down on a cup to let all the excess pour out.

That’s it! Now they just dry and you replace the top!

Pretty Glitter Ornaments to use for whatever you decide!
