We made glitter ornaments. We made little thumbprint reindeers.
Now what?
That’s exactly the dilemma I ran into a few years ago when I needed an ornament idea. We were making ornaments for family so I wanted something a little more special.
As Prissy snored away in my lap, I came up with the idea of cute thumbprint cats! Cute, fat, round little cats would be super adorable and absolutely perfect for family members.
Not to play favorites or anything but…. these are my favorite of the thumbprint ornaments we have made!

They are just so darn cute!
Like before, if you want the ornaments to be glittery, take care of that step first. Directions can be found HERE.
Now, the cats are basically the same as the reindeer. Paint, your child’s thumb, etc. Only difference, you need paint the color of the cats you want represented on the ornaments. You’ll probably need to get a little creative mixing the paint to better match the cats.

This is the set of ornaments we made a few years ago. Each cat in the family at the time was included. My brother’s little orange cat Morris, my dad’s two cats and of course, Prissy with her little heart nose.
Abby and I decided to make updated ornaments since we now have Nazboo. My husband went in search of ornaments for me but couldn’t find any of the ball ones so he came home with these glass ornament discs. I actually liked the different shape, something different to work with and a new look.

You’ll start just like with the Reindeer Ornaments and of course, if you want glittery ornaments, make sure to make Glitter Ornaments before getting started on the cats

To get started, I gathered the paint colors needed. Nazboo is pretty easy with just black and white. Prissy, on the other hand, I would need to lightly mix light brown, dark brown and white in order to achieve her coloring.

Since I didn’t have my paint pens yet (I knew I was forgetting something!), I used a simple sharpie to write the names as a place holder so we knew where to place the thumbprint. The Sharpie easily wipes off with a cleaning wipe so it works perfectly until I have my paint pens.

Now that Abby is older, she was able to help more and do more by herself.

All done! We sat these aside to dry and wait for the paint pens to arrive.

When the paint pens finally arrived, it was time to finish these up! We decided to go all out this time and get pretty metallic pens in all sorts of colors! Again, Abby was more independent this time and did quite a bit on her own. She loved getting creative with the different colors and really making the cats represent our pets.

We had a blast recreating our Cat Thumbprint Ornaments! And I was thrilled Abby was more in charge this time around, I love seeing her own creativity mixed with mine.
So that’s it! Our own little unique twist of the Reindeer Thumbprints. There are so many different options out there, have fun and create your own version! Remember… don’t worry about perfection! Have fun, let the kid have fun and create things their way, enjoy spending time together and making memories!
This is such a cute idea. We love cats, so we’ll be making these ornaments for sure.
