Budget Friendly Furniture
While buying all new stuff to makeover a room is fun, it’s not always budget friendly. I love shopping at thrift stores and yard sales to find much needed items. Sometimes, I even find what I need already among what we have! Abby desperately needed a new desk for school so we decided to upcycle my old desk for her. With only the cost of paint and my husband’s time, this furniture upcycle definitely stayed well under budget!
Time for an Upgrade
Okay, technically the desk isn’t old but it was my office desk for several years at the old house.

When we moved and I started setting up my work space, I realized I needed a much bigger desk.
Luckily, I found one on FB Marketplace, it needed a little TLC but it was just what I was looking for. Don’t worry, a post featuring my desk’s makeover is coming soon.
But right now, it’s Abby’s desk in the spotlight!
Once my new desk was in place, we were left with figuring out what to do with my old desk. Although Abby had a desk, it wasn’t the greatest and I had already planned to find her something a little bigger and nicer.

I was just having difficulty finding anything we liked that stayed in budget.
So we decided, why not just fix up my old desk for her! It’s a wonderful desk and definitely one that would accommodate her needs as she gets older.
Best of all?
It was well under budget!
Giving New Life to an Old Desk
First things first, the ugly brown had to go.

I love the clean, fresh look of white furniture plus Abby’s room is all white and pink.

We debated for a few weeks on exactly how we wanted to paint the desk and finally decided on white with the back wall pink. I considered the drawer fronts pink as well but my husband said that would be too much.

Until he started painting…
and next thing I know, he has the drawers pink as well… he decided it looks better haha

yes dear, if you say so.
Anyways, from brown to pink and white, this desk received a gorgeous makeover and is now absolutely perfect for Abby’s room!

We have a few little touch-ups here and there plus adding all her books and everything but she’s all set up and ready to go and the desk is the perfect addition to her room. Plus her room looks so much bigger now!
Sometimes, a little extra work and care can turn an old piece of furniture into something updated and beautiful. There are so many little hidden treasures at second-hand shops and yard sales. Furniture that with a little TLC can become an all new piece. Help give new life to old furniture, upcycle when you can and let’s keep some of these older (and gorgeous) pieces out of the landfills.
